My computer:- The my computer icon provides access to
the resources on your computer.My
computer is also known as the heart of
the computer.It is generally located on the top left corner of the desktop.You
can access your drives and other peripherals(hard disk, floppy disk,CD drives
etc.) by double clicking on the my computer icon.Besides these you can also
view Control panel,My documents, Network places etc. inside mycomputer icon.
My document:- My document is a specific folder that allows
you to store the windows files by default. It is also known as a handy place to
store files and documents that you have created on your computer. It is a
convienent way of storing your files and folders sothat you can easily access
them next time you want.But it is not necessary to store the files in any
location as you want.To open`My Document’ folder double click on it from
desktop.
Internet Exoloer:-The internet Exploer icon located on the
desktop allows you to launch the Internnet Explorer browser.You use this icon
to log on to the Internet.To brouse it you just need to double click on it.
The Recycle Bin:- when you delete an object,files or folders
Windows xp sends it to the Recycle Bin.You can restore the deleated items that
are located in the Rcycle Binn or you can permanently delete them.It is just
like the `Dustbin’, where you throw unwanted things.
Network Neighbourhood:- My network place helps you to view
the list of other computers connected to
the network.Sitting on one computer you can view,copy or edit the data of other
computers. You can even set up the connection to the internet.
Taskbar:-By Default, the taskbar is located on the bottom
edge of the desktop.You can click the taskbar and drag it to other locations.The
start button,active program buttons, icon for quick access to programs,and the
current time are located on the taskbar.Whenever you open a program,document,or
window, an icon for that program appears on the taskbar.This lets you see which
programs are currently running and you can also easily switch between them.When
many documents and program windows are open, taskbar grouping creates more
available space on the taskbar.For example,if you have 10 windows open and
three of them are Wordpad documents,the three Word pad document taskbar buttons
will group together into one button
named`Wordpad’.Click this button and then click one of the documents to view
it.To reduce taskbar clutter, icons in
the notification area(next to the clock)are
hidden from view when they haven’t been used in a while.If ann icon
becomes hidden,click the arrow(<) to temporarily display the hidden icons.
If you click one of these icon, It is displayed again.
Start button:- The start button is located onn
the left side of the taskbar.To use the Start manu just click the start button or press windows
key located between CTRL and ALT key from
your keyboard.To close it,just click outside the empty part part of the
screen.The new Start menu is smarter and
provides you with more customization options. It shows you who is logged
on.It automatically adds the most
