d.  Hard Disk:- A hard disk is a storage media where we keep all our data files and programm files. It is fixed inside the CPU casing, so we have to open the casing in order to see it.Here too, the capacity of the hard disk that we want depends upon the size of software we are going to use. Basically people prefer a hard disk of 160 GB(gigabytes) or above.If your hard disk is full- you can remove(delete) the files from it or add another hard disk. Now a days SATA,cabling technologies replacing PAFT technology.SATA and PATA refer to the type of cable/jack used to connect the hard drive to the motherboard.To put it bluntly PATA hdds are ancient.SATA has fewer connecting wires then PATA. Pata had a max of 133 MB/s and SATA has a max of3GB/s. PATA is a pain to install to.If you got a motherboard during 2007 or after it is SATA for sure. If  you got before then there is a chance it could be PATA. You can find out by looking at the connector.PATA has 40 connectors.SATA is much thinner.

ii. Up gradable or not:- We might want to go for a faster processor in future, so we have to keep in mind whether the computer we are buying can be upgraded or not.Some computers can not be  upgraded and in such case we have to buy the motherboard,which is equivalent to buying a new computer(expensive).Some companies like Intel keeps on producing newer version of their processors(which are faster), like Pentium family.If it is up gradable,we can upgrade an older version to a newer one of the same family.
c. Memory:-  When we are working with the computer,data and instructions are kept temporarily in the RAM(Random Access Memory).So we must have an idea what size of software are we going to use on our computer so that the RAM can accommodate it.Hence it will help us to determine the size of the RAM we are going to keep.RAM can be easily upgraded.People usually go  in for 512MB(megabytes) or 1 GB& Move.

a. CPU casing:-The CPU casing is two types i.e. tower type and desk type. Incase of tower type CPU,the case stands up tall.If the CPU case lies flat underneath the monitor, then  it is desktop type.If we have more space on the table, then we can go for desktop type of CPU but if we have less space on the table,then tower type would be recommended because it can be kept beneath the table or on the floor.
b.  Processor:- The most imp0rtant factor is the type of processor we use because of two reason:
i. Speed:- The speed of a processor means, how long will it take to process or perform any arithmetical calculation or logical function.we often go for a processor that has a greater speed.The speed of a processor is measured in term of Megahertz(MHZ).Higher the megahertz,faster the computer.A faster processor allows us to connect to the internet quicker. INTEL company is the leader among all manufactures of processor speed.

b.  Branded or assembled:- The next decision to be made is whether to buy a branded or an assembled computer.A branded computer is one that has been manufactured by well-known computer manufacturing companies and has a  brand name on it. The parts of a branded computerare thought to be of genuine or good quality.But they are expensive than compared to assembled computers. Assembled computers are ones whose parts have been bought and fitted by local companies.They are relatively cheaper than branded computers.People buy parts of computer,made by well-known manufacturers and fit them together(assemble). Here, one can  buy the best quality computer parts of different manufacturers and assemble them.But the disadvantage of an assembled computer is , the parts may be of a poorer quality.Branded computers are expensive than assembled ones.

computers are increasingly becoming popular these days. More over, they are becoming popular at homes, People are buying computers for various personals uses  at homes like playing games , keeping household records etc.But many questions arise when one has to by a computer. There are various factors that should be considered before buying a computer like type of computer,its hardware,software and peripheral devices(extra devices like printer, modem)etc.we shall see each of these factors in detail.
  Types of computer......
a.  Laptop or desktop:- The very first question that we have to answer is whether we want a laptop or sesktop computer.A laptop computer is small(the size of briefcase) and can be taken anywhere you want to.They are particularly suitable for businessmen,who have to travel a lot and need a computer for keeping various business records, But they are very expensive. But if we are to sit in one place and work, then we should consider a desktop computer.They are relatively cheaper.

(c) Always make backup copies(duplicate copies) of your important data or files, so that incase your original file(s) in the hard disk is infected with viruses,you can make use of your duplicate copies(that you have backed up in floppies)
(d)  As most of the image/picture file carry viruses, do not download image from the Internet aimlessly
(e)  If you are using your friend's diskette in your computer, scan it first with an Anti-virus software
(f)  Regularly scan your computer Antivirus software
(g)Do not copy software or programms illegally
(h)  Do not by pirated(copied) software or programs. They may also contain virus.
     Once more i want to say that A computer virus damages the computer.A virus corrupt data and make them unusable.Virus slows down the speed of the computer.Vulgar pictures or messages may be displayed.Anti- virus software cleans the virus from our  computer.Regularly scan your computer with Anti-Virus software.Do not copy software or programs illegally.Pirated software or programs may contains virus.

Symptoms of virus:-If computer is infected by virus, it shows various result, which are as follow:(a)the speed of the computer might slow down drastically(b)Vulgar pictures or messages may be displayed on the screen at unwanted times(c)Programmes may not run because of the infection of virus in theexecutable programfiles(d)Computer may not boot because of the infection of the virus in the operating system.(e)File size may increase or decrease drastically.
Prevention from virus.....
There are various way to prevent our computer from being infected by computer virus. If we follow the given preventive measures then we can procted our computer, data annd programs from computer virus and save time and money
(a) Do not boot your computer with an virusinfected disk.
(b)Before using other's diskette, first ensure that it doesn't contain virus by scaning it with an Anti-virus software.If it contains a virus,frist remove it and then use it.

There are many companies w hich make Anti-Virus software that remove virus from a computer but one can not be sure when the virus might infect the computer.Some computer viruses cannot be removed in the absence of  the latest Anti-Virus software. That time, we have to remove all the programmes from our computer(format) and again reinstall them, in which case, we loose important data.
  What is a computer virus?
Virus is the term used to describes any group of willfully destructive computer programms. The computer virus destroy data and computer software. Sometimes, they make the program very big or sometimes small,changing the file size.Sometimes they destroy the program or dislocate the data. Computer viruses are mostly transmited through game disks.

COMPUTER VIRUS.......
Just like a biological virus makes us fall sick, a computer virus damages the computer. Damaging  a computer does not mean that that the hard disk or the monitor of a computer will brust out. it means that a computer cannot function its work.The programms stored inside the hard disk(If infected by a virus) become un use able and so it does not work.Virus effect the software part of the computer while a computer works with the help of software(collection of instructions).
  computer virus is a destructive computer programme.Millons of computers are infected day by day. Computer of educational instititions, government institution, business etc.get infected by virus and they may damage the data and corrupt them and  make them unusable.They get transferred from one computer to another by various means.

It is also used to store huge volume of data and information.Specially we use  CDs to store movies and graphic files. A CD-ROM drive must be plased inside the CPU casing where we can insert a CD. The surface if the CD should be kept clean and away from dust. they hold data in terms if megabytes(700  / 800MB )
   Pen Drive: A pen drive is a small storage unit that could be hung in the pocket as a pen, so  called a pen drive.The drive is connected to the computer and data are stored or deleated from the pen drive.Its capacity ranges from 250MB on wards. It is easier to carry data in it, as it is small in size and its capacity  is higher than that of diskettes and zip cartridges. These drive are only supported by pentium II and above computers.

It can hold information up to 1.44MB (megabitytes) .A floppy enables us to write data into it and carry anywhere we go.
  Hard Disk:
                  A hard disk is the most common type of storage device used in almost all computers today. It is fixed inside the CPU casing.It is also called as fixed Disk or Winchester Disk.a hard disk can store a huge volume of information than compared to floppy disk. The information stored in  a hard disk remains even if there is no power to the computer.Hard disk comes in many storage capacities. It ranges from Megabytes to Gigabytes. As the hard disk is fixed inside the CPU casing, we cannot carry it anywhere unlike the floppy disk
   CD-ROM;   it stands for.Compact Disk Read only memory.You all must be familiar with CDs. It is circular in shape and has a shiny surface at one side.

Auxilary Storage Unit................
As the primary memory of the computer can hold information for a limited time,supplementary memories are made available for storing a huge amount of data or information permantently.Auxulary memory is also called as secondary memory or supplementary memory. It is also loked inside the CPU casing.In secondary storage devices information remains stored till the user erases. some of the most commonly used secondary storage devices are  Hard disk,floppy disk,CD-ROM,flas or pen Drive etc
    Lets learn the most commonly used secondary storage devices:
 Floppy Disk-
       A floppy disk is used to store data and information for current and for future uses.The user can erase the stored data whenever required.A fioppy disk drive is kept in the CPU unit where Floppies are inserted. A floppy disk drive is used to read and write information on it.generally floppy disk are recognized by A: or B:.At present, we use only one type of floppy which is3.5" and is called  micro floppy diskette.
